Knits are a natural go-to for cooler months, and this season the much-loved winter staple has been given a souped-up fashion upgrade. Textured knitwear is all the rage this season and brands like H&M, Acne and Aje are all in on the trend. At DISSH, their cable knit cardigans are relaxed and comfy, and finished in a tonal palette of chalk and charcoal. Aje’s ‘Rue’ sweater is made in a soft ribbed jersey with gold hardware accents affixed at the wrist. At H&M and COS, mohair is all the rage – the former is offering an adorable crystal-embellished mohair effect set (just add tights and knee high boots for the ultimate after dark get-up) and the latter’s mohair zip-up is function meets style. Acne is offering a high-fashion kitsch take, with their distressed knit cardigan, dotted with a sprinkling of delicate bows.
This autumn, we love the unapologetic maximalism of textural dressing. On the runways during the AW25 season, we saw seriously tactile outerwear, particularly a selection of delectable leather jackets in fresh shapes and colourways. At Chadstone, shop the trend at DISSH, where the oversized ‘Margot’ leather jacket offers instant cool factor (and a boxy silhouette to protect you from punishing Melbourne winds). Scanlan Theodore’s take is pure elegance, finished in soft cream leather and gold detailing. And at Acne Studios their edgy chocolate brown cropped leather jacket with silver-tone hardware is a statement piece for the season.
Denim can make or break an outfit, and a new pair of jeans can breathe new life into a wardrobe. This season is all about the wide-leg jean, a silhouette that is universally flattering. Acne Studios’ iteration is a Y2K-inspired take on the barrel jean featuring cargo-style pockets, while Witchery’s barrel-leg jeans are finished in classic indigo. Viktoria + Woods ‘Kravitz’ jean is a stylish wide-leg style in a trendy two-tone blue wash, perfect for day-to-day dressing (just add your favourite cashmere sweater and heeled ankle boots). Country Road’s take is cropped perfectly, just above the ankle, and made with Saitex, designed to reduce energy use, water consumption and waste in the denim-making process. While Unison and Camilla & Marc are offering wide-leg styles in white and black. Whatever your preferred hue, this oversized silhouette looks good on everyone.
When it comes to nailing a great outfit, proportions are everything. Which is probably why bold, ‘80s-style shoulders are trending this season. Spotted on the runway at brands like Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, oversized blazer and blazer coats balance day-to-day practicality with a high-fashion edge. The key to nailing the look lies in finding a style with oversized proportions that don’t overwhelm you. We recommend reaching for a durable fabric like wool, in a classic shade or print like navy, brown, black or pinstripe. Ground the look in the everyday by adding a fitted knit and jeans, or play with dualities by throwing yours over a feminine printed day dress (just add lace-up boots). Debbie Harry, eat your heart out.
